What is postpartum depression – A state of mind, behaviour of individual , stress and anxiety which comes after childbirth.
Is it real term or some myth- It differs from person to person . If asked about me . Yes its real term. But old times people really dont understand. In a way modern era has changed the lives of people . The kind of food, amount of exercise and overall existence of individual family have in general isolated the human beings from roots . Joint family system has been eradicated. The competition, which is absolutely not healthy1 have made us running behind materialist thing . Mental health is at stake. Talking about postpatum depression . Individual family system has overburden couple with so much of responsibilty that to excell in every fieldis constant thought which has made us tired mentally . Child birth itself is not easy process and above all the change in entire lifestlyle become overburden if there is no helping hand which leads to guilt for especially mother who is dealing with hormonal changes post birth. If the support system is strong you dont getdrained easily . Breast feeding the child a beautiful journey can be tiresome for some females due lactation problem. This leads to more anxiety .
The most important thing that adds up is what people are going to say . To look best in front of society has made us two faced . You can be vulnerable at a time . U can drain off . That supreesion of emotions and for females to excel in taking care of child have made women a lot more vulnerable to stress
Sleepless nights and no proper schedule adds more to vulnerablity . All in one yes PPD is real term . Be good to women who is going through .
Is it disease of modern times – i would say yes .offcourse i am saying based on few cases but would be sharing the article which states the same. The change in modern world from ancient environment has increased prevelance of postpartum depression .
Early weaning ,diets deficient in essential fatty acids, low levels of physical activity and isolation from kins support networks all this was probably rare in ancient times. One more important factor for workolic women is getting back to work , getting employed again . This thought can constantly make life difficult . Although research found that women who starts working post 4- 5 months has been less vulnerable .
Fat deficient diet – the concept of modern era has created relatively lowin omega-3 essential fatty acid. Good fats are very much necessary as they have potent anti-inflammatory effects. This good fat is even absorbed during pregnancy and lactation which adds to scarcity in female body. This supports the link between omega-3s and postpartum depression a study be( Appleton, Rogers &Ness2010).
Breast feeding have drastically decreased in modern times . Breast feeding release the hormone oxytocinand prolactin each of which have anxiolytic effect and are negatively associated with postpartum depression .
Lack of exercise . Machine have replace the human efforts but has created decrease in physical activity .
